About
Half Past started the way most of my hobbies start: by accident. I liked how watches looked. Clean dials, cool cases, a little mid-century charm. Then I started learning the history, fixing small things, and helping friends figure out what they had. Before I knew it, people were asking me to look at their grandfather’s watch, check authenticity, or help pick a gift. At some point the hobby became a small shop.
I am drawn to watches with character. Clean but interesting dials, classic brands, forgotten brands, old military pieces, and anything mid-century. I grew up hearing my grandfathers talk about World War II and listening to my dad’s old rock records from the 50s through the 70s. Those eras stuck with me. The watches from that time still have life in them.
I buy what I like. If I would not wear it, I do not sell it. Most of my pieces come from reputable auctions and long-time dealers. I look for honest materials, clean design, and watches that still feel wearable today. When I open an old watch it feels like opening a time capsule. I find engravings, watchmaker notes, and small clues that make me want to learn more about where it came from.
I am not a full watchmaker. I have not earned that title. I am a watchbuilder, a restorer in training, and someone who enjoys the process of learning how these little machines work. It is challenging, and that challenge is a big part of why I do it.
I'm Evan. Working on watches is a meditation for me. This shop is a way to share that enjoyment with people who appreciate good design and good stories.
Why the name Half Past? These watches are halfway through their lives but nowhere near finished. They have decades of life left in them. Every vintage piece is one of one. Every retromod or build is meant to be worn and enjoyed.
If you love watches or you are simply curious, welcome.
